The Marrakech Ménara airport was extended in 2008 with a new contemporary wing E2A Architecture & CR Architecture. Its structure is made up of concrete & steel rhombuses, featuring ornamental glass printed with an ancient Islamic arabesque pattern, "reminiscent of typical wire mesh combined with modern touches". Skylights in the roof are also fitted with photovoltaic panels to filter the blazing sun & keep the interior cool. The airport provides a contemporary building, which still acknowledges & preserves Moroccan tradition.
